COPIT

Tecnópole participated in a Program of Cooperation with Industrial and Technology Parks called COPIT, a state-level action to improve the competitiveness of companies and research centres located in these areas through cooperative arrangements among them, during the life of the project in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

A total of 20 Science and Technology Parks and 28 Industrial Estates across Spain participated in the COPIT program, whose main objective was to establish a partnership network between companies and organizations founded in these areas, based on the sharing of knowledge and technology offers, with the ultimate aim of promoting joint projects.

Tecnópole , along with this initiative, compiled the company and technological centres within the park and put together a catalogue of sectorial character that was sent to companies located in Galicia industrial areas, in order to get trade agreements and launch joint projects. In Galicia, the initiative involved the establishment of cooperative bonds between Tecnópole, and the Industrial Estates of San Cibrao das Viñas (Ourense) and Sabón (Arteixo, A Coruña). Later on, the Industrial Estate of Bergondo(Bergondo, A Coruña) joined this initiative.

The experience of Tecnópole as coordinator of the program in Galicia was endorsed by its selection as a success in 2009 and 2010 at state level - due to the contacts and agreements established between companies-.

Expansion Project

The implementation of the expansion project in the Parque Tecnolóxico de Galicia pursues an immediate goal of increasing the surface area available for the installation of technological companies, since the availability in the initial area of the Park is limited to several small parcels that would not allow the installation of new substantial business projects.

In addition to this immediate objective, the execution of the expansion project of the Parque Tecnolóxico de Galicia will help to achieve objectives of a more strategic nature, which will improve the competitive position of the Galician economy, particularly in Ourense.

When the entire expansion project is completed, it will go from the initial area of 55 hectares to nearly double that, some 98 hectares.

Current situation

The expansion project of the Parque Tecnolóxico de Galicia started to become reality in the year 2009 with the first land acquisition.

Nowadays it includes 100% of the planned area for enlargement, the improvements to the hydraulic system were carried out and the first phase of urbanization was concluded.

The first phase of construction was delegated in May 2012 and completed in January 2013, involving the urbanization of a total surface area of more than 80,000 square metres, resulting in 5 parcels totaling 37.318 square metres.

Actions taken to carry out this project were funded by the Xunta de Galicia and the Ministerio de Industria, Energía y Turismo through aid programs for the reindustrialization.

SERBATEC

The pilot Project SERBATEC for the creation of a Cross-border Network of Resources and Technology-based Services was designed to generate certain conditions which would allow for the creation and consolidation of technology-based companies in the Galicia - North of Portugal Euroregion, giving priority to the structuring of an interior axis (Lugo / Ourense / Braga / Porto) concurring with the so-called Atlantic Axis.

The initiative allowed for the creation of a website designed by both Galician and Portuguese partners under the protection of the INTERREG IIIA Community Initiative.

This website attempts to help businessmen, entrepreneurs and, on the whole, any person who has an idea of business and who seeks information to create his/her company or to establish it in anywhere in the Galicia – North of Portugal Euroregion..

In this way, SERBATEC has a number of tools which provide the user with information about the following questions: financing search, location of industrial sites, site of the resources of the value chain of companies in particular sectors, and information about entities of interest related to the protection of knowledge.

Critic services

The project supports the initiatives of cross-border technological cooperation by facilitating companies with a technological basis with access to a number of critical services that no other project or network in the area offers, such as:
  • Tools for knowledge protection. The objective of these tools is to increase the number of patents and copyright offices in the Euro-region.
  • Support mechanisms for product and service marketing. Due to the constant process of internalization, the companies need to increase their business dimension by looking to attain several cooperation agreements and their technological innovation, with impact on both production and distribution processes and on management as well. With the aim of helping companies in the area in this field, SERBATEC offers local logistic packages and online technological diagnosis tools to the entrepreneurs and technological companies in the area (University – CIT – Companies – Associations – Clusters – Company Centres).
  • Tools and financing opportunities in the Euro-region. These tools support the design of on-line financing strategies in order to make better use of the company’s public and private financing tools.
  • Business support resources present in the region. It includes the support of infrastructures, industrial grounds, financing tools, marketing, etc. which are complemented by local logistic packages to identify critical agents in the very value chain. The idea of using these two tools is to increase the contact between companies and institutions with a technological basis on both sides of the border, and to help capture industrial investments in the Euro-region related to location advantages or associated to processes of expansion of other industrial centres (for example, the automobile sector, textile sector, etc. ) and in this way, confront the scarce foreign investment in the area. This service is very important considering the increasing competitiveness between regions for the acquisition of companies and investments, visitors and community funds.

PARQUE Project

The PARQUE project (Reinforcement and Strengthening of Business-Useful Resources) was an experimental plan whose main objective was to approach the modernization of business parks in the Galicia-North of Portugal Euro-region, improving its business competitiveness by means of a sustainable model. It was developed from May 2006 to June 2008 and its goals were to get investments, improve the basic services in the parks, install advanced services of technological transfer, and stimulate the cross-border business internationalization and cooperation.

The project aimed to implement and validate an experimental plan of action which provided new services to six new business parks in Galicia and in the North of Portugal to transform them into attraction poles of new business investments and also reinforced the competitive improvement of the companies that were already settled, providing specialized support to the agents in their process of technological transition. The project had a budget of nearly three million euros, 75% of which the FEDER was in charge of.

Six business parks of the Euro-region participated in the project. They work as primary nodes of the TELÉPOLE cross-border network (Red Telemática de Parques Empresariales: Telematic Net of Business Parks), virtually interconnecting such infrastructures by means of a VoIP network. The business parks that form the TELÉPOLE net are Sabón (A Coruña), O Ceao (Lugo), Parque Tecnológico y Logístico de Valladares (Vigo), Parque Tecnolóxico de Galicia (Ourense), Zona Industrial de Chaves (Chaves) and the Zona Industrial de Bragança (Bragança).

Apart from the communications over VoIP, common services of video surveillance, video streaming, webcasting and geographical location in the parks participating in the Project were introduced and acted as initial nodes of a network with extensive vocation which reached the rest of the infrastructures on industrial sites present in the Euro-region.

General objectives

  • To promote the competitive improvement of the productive base of the Euro-region in accordance with the impacts derived from the internationalization and globalization of the economy.
  • To reinforce the modernization of the new investment attraction poles.
  • To contribute to the creation of an integrated cross-border market.

Specific objectives.

  • To extend the information society into the economy and business fabric.
  • To stimulate the business initiative capacity.
  • To organize information and knowledge transfer networks.
  • To develop services common to the border companies.
  • To develop a Telematic network of Advanced Services of Telecommunications for Business Parks.

Strategies.

The action plan saw the introduction of the following main strategies:
  • Improvement of basic services in the existing parks.
  • Determination of a sustainable model of business parks.
  • Development and implementation of advanced technological transfer services.
  • Reinforcement of the cross-border internationalization and business cooperation.
  • Investment acquisitions.

The role of the Park in the project.

Tecnópole participated in the project as a technological partner supporting the introduction of advanced solutions of IP telephony in the different business parks with the aim of building the so called TELÉPOLE Net, which is the telematic support of voice interconnection over IP protocol of the six parks participating in the project.

Advantages

The integration of elements such as videoconference and IP video telephony has the potential of changing the way in which the organizations communicate completely. It provides all the benefits of IP telephony and IP videoconference, such as costs reduction, productivity increase, maximization of the technological infrastructure capacity, but above all, it provides a powerful tool of cooperation, solving the problem of users that do not have video systems, and with this solution, allowing them to interact with those that do have them.
